Back in 1975, bands dominated the entertainment scene.  Bobby Bristol, then known as “Greg Matthews” was a young high school aged DJ working at WINX Radio in Rockville, Maryland.  One of his most enjoyable duties at the station was acting as the emcee and announcer for the station’s WINX Wobbler basketball team.  The action-packed games were usually followed by “sock-hops,” hosted by Bobby.  The word soon spread and those fun-filled sock-hops lead to bowling banquets and holiday parties, which in turn lead to pool parties and wedding receptions.   Little did he know that the foundation was being laid for Bobby Bristol’s Bristol Sounds Deejays.

College at the University of Maryland followed, as well as an association with the Washington area’s first deejay company, Sounds Dynamic. Bobby happily entertained at dance marathons, Greek Weeks and orientation events on campus.  He also holds the distinction of being the original DJ at College Park’s famous hangout, “The Vous.”  As the end of college approached, Bobby had to decide whether to continue with the growing DJ business or find another line of work.  In September of 1982, Bobby combined with a fellow University of Maryland alum to form Bristol Sounds Deejays.

With offices in College Park, the business grew quickly.  It wasn’t long before Bristol Sounds Deejays was known at high schools and colleges up and down the East Coast.  Party planners took notice as well and our Bristol Sounds Deejays were playing at events all over the Washington and Baltimore areas.

Since 1988, some things have changed at Bristol Sounds Deejays.  Bobby bought out his partner and moved the offices to Howard County, Maryland.  This location allows Bristol Sounds to conveniently serve customers from Baltimore to Northern Virginia.  Amazingly, some of the same DJs associated with Bristol Sounds Deejays at the beginning are still working with Bristol Sounds today.  And just as notable, Bobby’s son, Michael, a talented college-aged deejay is keeping the family tradition alive.
